Major Remediation Projects Instructions, Get Brexit Done, Knowledge Bank & All Stars Celebration

The last quarter of 2019 has been transformational in the sense that the UK (in December) got a majority government and a commitment to get Brexit done.  Despite our normal (high) levels of activity throughout 2019 there has over the preceding few months been an undoubted brake on project commitment and expenditure, almost entirely due to the uncertainty hanging over the government’s inability to get a deal agreed within Parliament let alone with Europe. “With the future of the next 3 to 4 years a little more certain, at least in overall direction, my feeling is that 2020 will see a very substantial tick up in business activity.”  – Shaun Harris

Harris Associates have been appointed as overall project manager and contract administrator for two substantial central London façade remediation projects.

This is the result of our building and expanding our commitment and service offering in this sector over the last 18 months or so.  Our consulting, assessment and advisory services have continued to grow and we are now seeing that our innate expertise in project management and contract administration lends itself directly to the delivery and execution of the remediation project phase.  “Complex and challenging!”  This was the response when David Royal, the appointed project manager lead for both projects, was asked about the two instructions. “We have a team in place with administrative and technical expertise. We have also introduced another layer of robust site administration which comprises of a quasi-clerk of works role responsible for the detailed examination and policing of the standards delivered on site at the coal face. We are basically well set and adding value to the benefit of our clients at every stage.” – David Royal

In November Shaun Harris delivered a Knowledge Bank CPD session in collaboration with News on The Block.  The session focused on 8 key areas:

  • Process, Leadership & Responsibility
  • Top 5 Basic Rules of Engagement (of your Surveyor)
  • Is a Surveyors Report Worth It?
  • Alternative to Surveyors Report?
  • Does Your Surveyor Have a Sufficiently Flexible Approach?
  • Demand More & More Often
  • Golden Rules
  • Alterations To Avoid

If you are interested in receiving more information or would like a bespoke CPD session, please contact Lisa Tyler.

Harris Associates was again proud to be the Platinum Sponsor at the 2019 Property Week Management All Stars.  We also sponsored the “Residential Property Manager of The Year” which this year was won by FirstPort.  A well organised event punctuated by a broad spectrum of high quality companies vying for these awards.

And finally, we wish all our clients, friends, peers and colleagues a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2020.
