April has been a busy month not just with the nuts and bolts of delivering our services but also on the CPD and training front. The RICS Building Surveying conference was attended by all of our surveyors this month. Feedback included:

A greater understanding of the role of the Client under CDM 2015 has seen a marked upswing – still room for improvement particularly in the private residential sector.
A reinforced loadbearing basement wall is unlikely to be considered as a special foundation under the Party Wall Act (on the basis that a wall is not a foundation).
RICS working towards classifying what a sink hole is and why they occur. An understanding of an increase in sink hole occurrences is being sought.
Introduction of Approved document Part Q – Security
Approved document Part R is to follow which will deal with infrastructure for data services.
Approved document Part M to be split into 3 parts – Visitable Dwellings / Accessible & Adaptable Dwellings / Wheelchair User Dwellings.
JCT to embark upon a blanket contract update in 2016.

Also in April we have updated our Licence To Alter Checklist for Surveyors plus our Licence To Alter Proforma and we have created a new Checklist for Clients & Property Managers. These can also be found on our Downloads page. Additionally and following on from our Top 5 Eco Innovations revealed in March we have this month comprised a list of the Top 5 Most Inappropriate Alterations To Historic Buildings
