Award Winning Magna Square Development Completes In Egham

Harris Associates are pleased to have worked on the recently completed Magna Square, an exciting development in Egham. The mixed-use scheme has transformed and regenerated a section of this historic Surrey town and was recently shortlisted for the British Homes Awards Regeneration Scheme of the Year Award!
Developed as part of Runnymede Borough Councils' town regeneration plan, the four-block development consists of 10,700 sq. ft of new commercial space and 101 residential homes. 67 of these homes are private apartments and 34 are affordable homes for Runnymede council residents plus there is also purpose-built student accommodation on the site.
In line with the council’s commitment to climate change, the regeneration project has several green credentials, including highly efficient thermal insulation, low energy lighting, and solar-controlled glazing, significantly reducing its carbon footprint.
Harris Associates were instructed to undertake a review of the external wall system on the four new buildings. This began with an initial review of the design information which included several site visits to observe and document the works relating to the external wall system throughout the construction phase. The findings were shared with the appointed fire engineers for their assessment and to achieve compliance and the design intent and specifications were cross-referenced against the as-built construction works, to assess if the system met the functional Building Regulation requirements. Upon completion of the scheme, the development received the External Wall Review Report and A1-rated EWS1 certificate for all four blocks.
